Happiness is so simple.
People search their entire lives for happiness only to find it was in their hands all the time.
Most people without knowing it create lives that bring them joy, comfort, protection and fun. And still, they keep seeking something more.
I remember in my forties, I told myself that if I ever made enough money I would order anything I wanted at a restaurant. This would be a sign that I was successful and found the recipe for happiness. For a decade as a single mom, I never had enough money for special occasions like going to a nice restaurant. Sadly, I thought my significance was in what I did and not in who I was.
When I started my own business and I became financially stable, I went to a sushi bar and ordered over $200 of my favorite rolls, tempura, miso soup, and sashimi. It is crazy to think about it now but there was no fulfillment in doing so. What I thought would bring me great satisfaction, only left me feeling sick to my stomach.
As I sat in that Japanese restaurant, I realized it was the people amongst me that made my life full of happiness. There across the table were my boys. They are the same people I made mac n’cheese from a box. Same laughter, same joy, same great joy with the ones I love the most.
My happiness was always there, I just never recognized it.
“Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.”
Your true happiness is right in front of you. It’s the lives you invest in that will bring ever present joy.
Happiness is your family, friends, faith, nature and all the things money cannot buy.
Look around today and rejoice in all that you have.
