There is something quite beautiful when you see a rose. I have over 50 rose bushes around my home. Every spring and summer my home is filled with rose stems (no need to buy at the store). There is also a nice aroma that roses bring to your home as well. Imagine making your own beautiful roses using a piping bag you make yourself.
I love making these rose cupcakes as they are super simple – anyone can make them.
Watch the video first and see how easy it is. Then scroll down the page to get all the details along with my buttercream recipe. You do need a sturdy buttercream to make these roses. A store-bought tub of frosting will not do unless you add some powdered sugar to it which will make it stiffer.
You will Need:
- Cupcakes (we have lots of recipes for you – type cupcakes in search bar)
- Freezer bag
- Scotch tape
- Buttercream frosting (see recipe below)
- Edible pearls (optional)
- Food color gel (I used pink)
Tip: When making rose cupcakes I reinforce the bag with two layers of tape on both sides. This gives it a sturdier tip. Also make sure you have good scissors as not to fray when you make that slit cut. And the smaller the slit cut the more refined rose tip you will get.
- 1 Cup butter (room temp)
- 1 Cup vegetable shortening
- 4 Cups powdered sugar
- Clear extract – I used almond extract (optional)
Mix butter and shortening with a beater or mixer until smooth. slowly add sugar until a thick consistency. You can add more powdered sugar if needed. Add extract. Add color.
If the buttercream does not hold when you lift up with a spoon and tip over, then add more powdered. Unlike buttercream you need to frost a cake or top of cupcakes, making roses requires a stiffer frosting.
