Thanksgiving is not the easiest theme to teach with preschoolers. As much as I share the story of the first Thanksgiving, I have found it is easier to focus on the learning aspects of turkeys and all the foods they are going to eat on Thanksgiving day. We also talk a lot about being thankful which is always wonderful to hear what the students are thankful for (lots of cats and dogs!)
Build a Turkey using felt board and felt pieces (cut to make feathers and turkey body)
Clothespin Feathers – a great fine motor development activity
Indian People Corn – using sponges (cut to small squares) and dipping in orange, brown and red. I had the children cut out the yellow corn shape. After the paint dried, I attached the husk made from brown construction paper.
